Does it cost you hundreds of dollars just to get to work each month?  If it does, you are certainly not alone.  There are millions of other Americans in the exact same boat.  In recent years, the price of gas in the United States has gotten so outrageous that it has played a major factor in where millions of American families have decided to live and in what kind of vehicles they have decided to purchase.  Many Americans that have very long commutes to work end up spending thousands of dollars on gas a year.

So when the price of gas starts going up to record levels, people like that really start to feel it.  But the price of gas doesn't just affect those that drive a lot.  The truth is that the price of gas impacts each and every one of us.  Almost everything that we buy has to be transported, and when the price of gasoline goes up the cost of shipping goods also rises.  The U.S. economy has been structured around cheap oil.  It was assumed that we would always be able to transport massive quantities of goods over vast distances very inexpensively.  Once that paradigm totally breaks down, we are going to be in a huge amount of trouble.

How many of us would have thought back in the LATOC 2008 era that in 2012 gas would only be three fiddy?  Of course this is propped up by death/wars/money printing, would have been better in the long term for gas to be $10 gallon.

I'm already seeing premium at 4 bucks with diesel closing fast.  Outrageous?  Yes if you factor in the death.

Sorry, it's Monday.   ;D

At least you don't have to listen to radio show call in's screaming "if the damn hippies would just get out of the way, we could produce all the oil we need right here in the US." Typical commentary in deep dixie.

Or do you?  ;)

I expect this sorta thing to reach a feverish pitch in the next few months as gas prices hit new records. I believe they will this year. I'm thinking $6 gas in some places.

I don't listen to many radio shows, I'm in S TX so the mantra here is "If the damn demmy crats would get out of the way and let us drill more in GOM then gas would be $1".  To be clear I'm a political atheist like GC, I see a nightmare regardless.

Yes, I expect more wailing and gnashing once we pass the psychological 4 dollar mark.

I really believe the Repukes are trying to crash the economy before the elections so they can blame Obama.  They have drunk so much Koolade that they believe Faux News and their rabid 30 percent are the mainstream.

And the Democrats are busy cluster fucking the people through inflation and deficit spending while trumpeting bogus statistics.

Both have their hands in the money jar, and both are hiding the truth.

So why deride one and ignore the other?

The government is ruined.

Jock told me he spotted diesel for sale at £1:48/litre in SE England - that works out somewhere around £6/$10 per US gallon.

Diesel is over $4 at the corner gas station where I live, which is between Charlotte and Winston Salem NC.  We have a small car that gets around 35MPG, and a large diesel pickup that gets about 18-20 MPG.  The truck does a LOT of sitting, and only goes out when we have to do truck-ly things like go to the dump.

We are not working so the car only goes out a few times a week to pick up supplies.   If gas get too high that could be cut down to once a week if need be.

We are in a similar situation.  Our F150 sits idle and is only used for going to the dump and bringing home building supplies during a project.  Last years we put 4k miles on it.

And back in 1973 - 1974 my step-dad once told me that we would live to see gas at $1.00 a gallon  ::)

 - it had been .30 to .32 a gallon and it rose to .36

Exactly, SD.  Americans have been spoiled rotten with subsidized low fuel costs for so many years that they call $5.00 a gallon 'outrageous'.  What I find outrageous is that Americans refuse to accept reality for what it is, and stop living off the backs of others in this world. It's about time they paid their fair share. Think about it.

If American's weren't coddled for all these years, perhaps we would have fewer, smaller, and more efficient cars.  Houses would have been made far more energy efficient, and many of the problems we have today would not have even existed, at least not for a few decades.
