Dumb question about scythes
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:43:25 PM »
I do everything left handed and am wondering if one can purchase a scythe thay can be swung from left to right? Do they make left handed snathes or is a person able to adjujst the handles, etc. accordingly?

Off wiki - In principle a left-handed scythe could be made, but it could not be used together with right-handed scythes in a team of mowers, as the left-handed mower would be mowing in the opposite direction.

Seems like you would be reaping something other than what you sowed otherwise.

Youre asking the wrong question. the right question is

How much ammo do I need to stockpile to ensure I can obtain sufficient right-handed slaves to cut my crops?

using a scythe (as I still do on occasion) is a skill and a rhythm that doesn't really favor one-sidedness over another-sidedness. Just use it, don't try to force it, take it easy, and go slow. it'll come.

Mr. G,

here you go: http://www.themaruggcompany.com/products.htm

Mine's right handed, but much easier to use than the old fashioned "S" kind.

No affiliation w/ Marugg; just a pleased customer.   :)

Awesome and thank you Wombat! Being a lefty will make me a bit of a pariah in the field I suppose if I'm working with others. As johnnyboy pointed out, I might be cutting things that people around me might object to.! :-\
