Amazon links to HA
« on: September 12, 2011, 09:15:49 PM »
A few thoughts on how I'd like this to work.

As we have mentioned before the thought of banner ads on the forum is a non starter, we'd lose the clean uncluttered look and they can be bloody annoying.

I've put together a little system where we will get commission from amazon and hopefully we can build up a relevant database of useful and relevant stuff available through them.

In the post section when creating or modifying a post you will find a new A amazon button, simply click it and type the name of what you have found between the tags. It will automatically turn your link into an amazon tag to the relevant item. Quick description for the benefit of other members who might be interested and that's it.

Keeps it confined in here, keeps the stuff relevant to members interests and we get a little help towards the server upgrade pending for the end of October 2011 :)

So if I click on somebody's link to an item, decide I don't want that item, I want something different, add that to my cart and check out, will you get commission on that purchase?

I think so, or you could create your own link in here with the amazon button and use that.

I'm a total neophyte at this advertising stuff so will learn as I go.

[amazonsearch]one second after by william r. forstchen[/amazonsearch]

OK, let's try this.  A contemporary doomer classic, links to Amazon US.  Now somebody else add something for Amazon UK, etc.

[amazonsearch]one second after[/amazonsearch]

Typing the words one second after between the tags generated by the a amazon button generates the above link rather than the simple url.

Does this work only with amazon.com (US)? What about its international affiliates (.ca / .fr / .de / .co.uk / etc.)?

OK, placed my first order through the link.  Isn't it 90 days until you see some $$, to allow for time for returns and such?  On your statement, look for a commission on cheap reading glasses, that's my contribution!

Shameless bump of my question 2 posts up. I may be ordering some stuff from European Amazon quite soon, so I need to know. Maybe there's a way to fudge the URL directly?

Sorry wasn't ignoring you. Just got back from Devon and am knackered.

I'll try to create a link to uk homepage. In theory as long as you go to amazon from that link then that referral session would be credited to HA.

[amazonsearch]amazon UK[/amazonsearch]

I don't know if it would work but you could try finding the parts you need then pasting the url between the tags in post using the amazon button. Theoretically the link would then be attributed to HA. You could do it in a post then use the preview button to use the generated links as a jump off point.

I'll have to use a proxy to test as they now have me geo located but an fr link might take you where you want to go. Curoius to know if it works actually.

Amazon button works with plain text as well btw auto generates the closest link it can to the descriptive inserted.
